Description:

The Corporation of the City of Mississauga (the “City”) invites Bids from qualified consultants for Consulting Services for Natural Heritage System Survey.

Brief Scope of Work:

Mississauga’s goals with respect to the natural environment, which are conveyed in Mississauga Official Plan (MOP) policies, are to protect, maintain, enhance and expand the City’s Natural Heritage System, and be proactive in the management and protection of its natural areas and features. The natural heritage system consists of approximately 142 Significant Natural Areas and Natural Green Spaces, 3 Residential Woodlands, 49 Special Management Areas and 38 Linkages, covering a total of 2,747 hectares, which represents 9.4% of the City’s total land area.

This data can be viewed in our open data site:  2021 Natural Areas System Update

Information on the Natural Heritage System, particularly the Significant Natural Areas, Natural Green Spaces and Residential Woodlands, is reviewed on an annual basis to update information on floristics, fauna, site conditions, boundary changes and management needs. Potential sites for expansion are also identified based on criteria in MOP, the presence of native vegetation, and proximity to Significant Natural Areas and Natural Green Spaces.

Each year one quarter of the Significant Natural Areas, Natural Green Spaces and Residential Woodlands are field surveyed to ensure current mapping in MOP, to update the Natural Heritage System geodatabase and to update Fact Sheets for each site. The survey information assists in implementing the Climate Change Action Plan, and also contributes valuable information to city initiated studies, capital works projects, acquisition plans and decisions on development applications

Contract Term:

The Contract with the Successful Bidder will be for a 4 year term, starting on or about Monday, February 20, 2023 and ending on Friday, February 19, 2027.  The work is expected to commence on or about March in each year of the four (4) year contract and be completed by the end of the same year.

The contract maybe extended at the sole discretion of the City for an additional four (4) year term. Contract extension, if any, will be subject to budget approval, satisfactory performance of the Supplier, and successful negotiations of both parties.
