The City values a proactive approach to wellness and a disability management program grounded in best practice which reflects the City’s commitment to the promotion and maintenance of employee health and well-being.

An on-site Occupational Medical Consultant (the “Consultant”) is required for approximately 40 hours per month on prearranged dates both in person and virtually.

The Consultant must be able to provide the adjudication of Short-Term Disability (STD) and Weekly Indemnity (WI) claims and assessments for various claims such as Long-Term Disability (LTD), WSIB and workplace accommodation through analysis of documentation and on-site assessment of clients.

The Consultant shall also be responsible for developing medical protocol and providing expert advice, expert witness (as required), attending regularly scheduled meetings and updating the City’s intranet site as required.

The Consultant will be required to work as an integral member of a team to evaluate/improve current disability management practices and provide input for standard operating procedures and components of an overarching wellness strategy.

The Consultant will work closely with Employee Health Services’ allied regulated health professionals in a hybrid model (onsite and online). Specific dates and time to be confirmed but on average 8 hours/week in hybrid model. Proposed regular planned time is 2 sessions per month on site, for 4 hours each; and 2 times per week for 4 hours, working on-site and/or remotely. Where additional time is required, specific time/location will be negotiated in consideration of City needs and consultant schedule availability.

The City expects a team approach including a Consultant with other dedicated physicians and specialists, including a psychiatrist. The Consultant will direct all occupational medical services and be responsible for any quality assurance issues. The intent is to provide coordinated and integrated occupational health services from a variety of specialty areas.
