Description:

The City of Mississauga (MiWay Transit) intends to develop a project to deploy (10) x forty-foot Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Buses (FCEB) within the City’s bus fleet, coupled with a hydrogen fuel supply chain in Ontario. The project aims to demonstrate the viability of this technology as a zero-emission solution for transit decarbonization while fostering integration of hydrogen fuel to kick-start the hydrogen ecosystem in Mississauga and surrounding GTHA.

The City is releasing this RFI to understand the market maturity regarding hydrogen fuel availability, and the prospect of potentially partnering with the City on this project. Please provide all relevant information regarding your organization’s ability to deliver under this proposed project.

Submission Requirements

  • The City is looking for hydrogen fuel suppliers under the following terms:
    • Supply of 300kg/day of hydrogen fuel (blue, grey, or green) at 350 bar.
    • The City will not own any of the hydrogen production, distribution, transportation, or dispensing infrastructure. Everything will be rented/leased.
    • All operations and maintenance of the hydrogen fueling infrastructure network will not be the responsibility of the City.
    • All 10 buses will be required to be fueled at night and ready by 4am the next morning. Back-to-back fills and fill rates need to be considered.
    • Budgetary pricing for cost of gaseous hydrogen under 5, 7, and 10 year contract options.
    • Solutions should be targeted for a December 31, 2025 project completion date where hydrogen fuel will be 100% available to fuel all 10 buses.
    • Supplier’s high level feasibility/solution info to show how to meet the deadline of December 31, 2025 for Federal funding incentives.
