The MiWay Transit Operations Department currently use a manual paper system to track where the buses are parked in the bus storage areas of the garages, creating daily parking sheets that are used to allocate buses for the morning service. The allocated buses are shown on a display in the Operator's lounge.  After the morning service is completed, MiWay employees will update the daily parking sheets several times throughout the day by continuously walking the bus storage areas of the garages.

MiWay would like to replace the manual paper and spreadsheet systems with a real-time transit yard management system (TYMS) to locate buses, and other non-revenue vehicles, within all vehicle traversable areas of the transit garages and around its yards. The TYMS would integrate with MiWay existing transit computer automated dispatch, automated vehicle location, scheduling, enterprise asset management and future fleet electrification systems to improve vehicle and work flow throughout the indoor and outdoor areas of the garages.
