Notice to Construction Contractors
PHASE 5B of OHSMS Implementation – Deadline for Certification with an OHSMS on Projects over $500,000 is January 1, 2025
November 2024
The City of Mississauga has adopted the requirement for an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) as part of its construction contract management and construction tendering processes. This demonstrates the City’s ongoing commitment to health and safety for contractors, employees and residents.
The City’s OHSMS requirement will continue to be a phased-in implementation based upon construction contract value. This phased-in approach will provide contractors with sufficient time to include any necessary elements into their existing health and safety plans.
Currently, Contractors on any construction project being undertaken with the City of Mississauga with a value over $5,000,000 must be certified with an approved OHSMS and registered with an approved OHSMS between $500,000 and $5,000,000.
Effective January 1, 2025, the City will enter its final phase of the OHSMS implementation process.
All Contractors must be certified with an approved OHSMS in order to be awarded projects of values over $500,000.
